Sam Simmons - The Whisky Word

For the next 2 days and nights, I will be afloat on Viking Line’s Cinderella taking part in their annual Whisky Fair/Whiskymässa

This year not only will we have a beautiful stand on the showroom floor, be hosting an outstanding masterclass celebrating David Stewart’s 5 decades with The Balvenie , but a few whisky friends and I have assembled to bring music to the ears of attendees twice per cruise.

We played in Cannes recently as a part of the launch of our new Triple Cask release for Global Travel Retail and it was so well received another boat named Cinderella invited us to play.

Sam's band

The #balvenieband will be Cat Spencer (Ukelele, vocals, Master of Malt) and Simon Roser (drums, Simply Whisky) and this time we have Rob Allanson (bass, Whisky Magazine) joining us.

If you are attending, come have a dram and a listen 9pm or 1:30pm in the pub. If not, look for shared pics via my twitter feed @dr_whisky, and if you have any band name suggestions, why not share them via facebook or on twitter with #balvenieband tag.

A Little Potted History of the Dipping Dog

In days gone by, the Dipping Dog would have been employed by thirsty employees at the distillery to pilfer whisky by lowering the cylinder into the cask. On retrieving it, its canny owner would have secured his haul by tightly sealing the opening with a cork.

The Intelligent Hand

It is no news that craftsmanship is at the heart of The Balvenie’s ethos. It permeates everything we do, from the whisky we make to the craftspeople we work with around the world. We remain determined to preserve traditional whisky-making methods even as our scale changes and technologies advance all around us. This is what film-maker James Rogan witnessed when he came up to the distillery to create a film around David Stewart’s 50 years with William Grant & Sons a few years ago.
